Rats

Rats and mice breed quickly and are known to carry various diseases, posing serious risks. For businesses in the hospitality industry, a rodent infestation can be especially damaging, potentially leading to closure due to violations of health and safety regulations.

In your home they may chew through wiring which can cause fire hazards, or chew through the electric wiring in your car if they find their way into your garage.

At Extermilex we understand how frustrating this situation can be and that swift action is required to get on top of the infestation before they multiply. Rats can have many litters in quick succession so it is vital that you contact us as soon as you notice an issue.

Signs of rats:

  • Rats need to gnaw to keep their teeth in shape. One of the first things you may notice is teeth marks on pipes, cables, or skirting boards. They will take on most items!

  • You may hear scurrying or scratching under floorboards, in cupboards, your loft space, or even see them darting into a small hole in the wall.

  • If you have pets your cat or dog will probably be startled by them, especially at night when they are most active. Your pet may run away in fear, become very inquisitive about certain areas of your home, or they may even chase them in an attempt to catch them. Try to discourage your pets from doing this as they can carry diseases that may be harmful to them.

  • You may see dark pellet-shaped droppings.

  • If they get into areas with food then you may notice that the crackers you had put back in the cupboard last night have more teeth marks in than you remember. It’s best to throw away all food that may be contaminated by rats.
